The Week of the National....Louisville, KY

Home from the National...so good to be home.

The Papillon Club of America had a week long event with three regional specialties and the official National at the Crowne Plaza in Louisville, KY.

Pottying the dogs outside the hotel
I left May 19th before noon.  I arrived at the hotel around 8, the weather was quite hot, so unloading was a warm endeavor - 10 (or more, I lost track of how many times I went up the elevator with stuff) trips later, all the necessities and dogs were in the room.  Luckily the rooms were spacious!  About 1:30, I crawled in bed.  I awoke about 4:20, laid quietly trying to go back to sleep until 5:30, when I got up and took the dogs out.  Back to the room I had 3 dogs to bath and groom for the first PCA Regional specialty.

In the performance arena, good news for Cheryl Brown and her two boys at the PCA agility trials.  She reported CH MACH Loteki Civil Liberties CD BN RAE MXS MJS MXP2 MJP2 had

Spencer's RN
four Qs with a score of 100 over the course of the three days of agility.  GCH CH Loteki The Winds Of Change NAJ earned his RN.

Mary Gail Holcombe (MS) reported her two boys, Loteki Rose To The Challenge (McGee) was 2nd in Beginner Novice B on Tuesday and 4th in Rally Novice B on Wednesday. He had a 100 score in Rally, but was beaten on time.

Mary Gail's Loteki Just Be A Gentleman CDX (Rascal) was 1st in Veteran Obedience on Tuesday with a 197.

Asia's Monday rosette
Monday's specialty was judged by James Hupp.  First time in the ring, Ona, Loteki Chanceux On My Honor won a 4th in the 9-12 class.  She had moments of brilliance and some very naughty times too, it was a big class so I felt great about Ona's debut!  Ms. Asia was shown in BOB.  I was thrilled to have GCH Loteki In The Heat Of The Moment awarded BOS over the top winning bitch in the country handled by a well known handler!  I also was proud to own the sire of the WB/BOW, Rorralore Fayrye Queene, owned and bred by Charlotte McGowan, sired by CH Loteki Rose To The Throne.

Tuesday was another regional specialty, which I chose not to enter.  My decision proved to be correct.  The judge was incredible slow and took almost 8 hours to judge just over 100 dogs!  The highlight of the day was when my long time friend, Christine Bohentine, arrived shortly after 10 a.m.!  We had not seen each other for 20 years!  She looked the same and it was non-stop chatting, questions and hugs!

Wednesday, sweeps was held in the afternoon, judged by Tracy Burdick (Denzel Papillons).  My Glamour (Loteki It's A Glamours Updo) won the 12-15 month bitch class.  She was well received by several of my peers.

A judge change was announced after the sweeps classes for the National, Mrs. Billings was in the hospital.  We all were in suspense as to who was going to come to judge the National.  The rumors buzzed around for several hours, but then the announcement was made that it would be Randy Garren of NC.  Judging was put back from 8:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m.  I did not have a dog entered so Thursday was another free day, which Mary Gail,

Charlotte McGowan, Cheryl Brown, Gail McGrew with Belle and myself in front
Cheryl and I chose to go to Churchill Downs and enjoy some incredible history, great food and fun!

Friday was bitches.  Ms. Glamour did me proud by winning the BBE class, my favorite class, where I think all the best dogs should be shown!  She went on to win RWB!  For the first time at National specialties, the AKC started a new rule where the reserve wins a 3 point major, so we were thrilled to not only go Reserve at the National, but come home with a three point major to boot!

Saturday was the intersex.  The morning started out with Juniors at 8:00 a.m.  Ms. Asia managed to slip away from me for a short time and two all out runs around the big ring with a HUGE smile on her face.  She came once I was able to position myself on the
Asia and her huge rosette!
ground and call.  She was so happy with herself.  She was encouraged by the entire audience laughing and clapping!  She was quite happy with herself!  When it was our time in the ring, she performed beautifully and was awarded Select bitch!  I was thrilled, even though in my opinion, she should have won!

Sunday was another regional specialty, which I chose not to enter.  I packed up and made my way home.  It was so great to be home.  The dogs all agreed!  Thankfully Monday, I had time to put things away, do laundry and catch a few extra minutes of sleep.  Back to work on Tuesday....

Well, I've done it again....
February I attended one set of shows in Des Moines.  The Papillon Club of Iowa had their 2nd A match.  I have been working on putting together the presentation for AKC to get full status.  Crossing fingers that by this time next year we will be planning our shows!

We have had a lot of winter weather in February and March, but it seems like spring is trying to push through.  The grass is green at last and the daffodils are pushing up.  Everyone is ready for sunshine and green.

I drove to Columbia, MO, the 2nd weekend in March to shows.  I enjoyed success at the dog shows also.  Lita became CH Loteki Alito De Vento with her third major on Saturday.
CH Lita

All from the BBE class, which is my favorite class!

Grant, (CH Loteki The Sun On My Face), was BOB at his first show as a special.  He was shown by Danna Robinson Saathoff.  Who just took his lead a couple minutes before stepping into the ring.  I was so proud of how well he showed for her!  There were 6 specials so it was a very nice win and his first 5 points towards his Grand Championship!  He repeated his win on Sunday, but a threatening snow storm found me heading home and skipping the group.

Easter weekend I went to shows in Clinton.  Saturday I drove over by myself with three 'green' dogs, I was fortunate to find ring side help.  Loteki In The Party Moment was WD/BOW for 2 points on Saturday.  My two 1st timers did okay with Loteki It's A Glamorous Up Do winning the BBE class and going on to WB/BOS for her first 2 points.  Ms. Mari, Loteki Fair Winds, was Best Puppy.
Sunday, Terry and I drove over the shows again, with similar success.  Kutcher was WD, BOW, and BOB for another point.  Glamour was WB and BOS.  We stayed and had a long
10 month old Glamour
leisurely lunch with friends and showed in the group.  Kutcher showed like a pro but now ribbon.  We drove home and then had a family night at Stephanie & Clay's with everyone sitting around the table.  It was nice.

Last weekend, I drove to DeKalb and had a wonderful weekend with the girls!  Weather had it wow moments.  Driving home I had wished I had had a pedicure and flip flops at 64 degrees!

No dog shows for a while.  I have a lot to get caught up on being away two weekends, and then there is the National the end of May.

Cannot believe, I have been away for a full three months!  It has been a busy, busy time.  Let me see if I can recap a bit, it isn't going to be easy.  I know I will forget something or something, which is why I should do this on a regular basis!

I have been doing a few shows, maybe one weekend a month since October, so although I have not been hitting the show scene hard, I have enjoyed wonderful phone calls and emails from others in the Loteki family!

Terry and I drove to Mason City for two shows.  We were very lucky to bring home the points in both sexes both days.  We enjoyed visiting with other exhibitors and were lucky to see some young Cavalier puppies owned by Jason & Kim Maret of Decorah.  I love learning about new breeds!

Cheryl Brown (TN) and Jackson had a great month of October.  Jackson completed his Preferred titles in 9 days and 18 Qs.  He started in Excellent B Preferred to start earning points towards his PACH and the next day he Q'ed in Excellent B Standard Preferred and won his first 16 PACH points.   Quite a lot accomplished in one month!

The second weekend in November, Cheryl and boys had a local TDAA trial today.    Cheryl entered Felix in the Games because it is what he needs for his TACh5 (7 Games). He Q'ed in both of the games on Saturday.  Jackson ran in one of the games and all three Standards and was perfect. 4 for 4!

November I took a day of vacation to attend shows in Omaha at the CenturyLink center with Gretchen Hofheins-Wackerfuss.  The weather was unseasonably warm, which was super.  We were able to see long time friend, Jere Olson, who was up from his new home in Texas to judge.  Gretchen finished her homebred Min Pinscher, Sultans Shred It on Friday.  Our jointly bred and owned, Sultans Tight Squeeze won the breed Friday & Saturday, select on Sunday for three majors towards his Grand Championship.  Littermate, Sultans Don't Start was WD for majors Saturday and Sunday.  Great weekend for Min Pins!

Friday, Lita (Loteki Alito Di Venti) was WB and BOW under Kent Delaney.  Sunday, Grant, a.k.a. Loteki The Sun On My Face, was WD to complete his championship from the BBE class.  He went on to be BOW and BOB over 7 specials!!!  Grant is co-bred/owned with Gretchen Hofhein-Wackerfuss.  It was wonderful to have her there when he finished his title!  The trip home was uneventful and flew by!

The first weekend in December I drove to shows in Belleville, IL.  The weather was unseasonable warm, but perfect dog show weather.  Saturday we were the bridesmaid in both sexes, but I was happy with Loteki In The Party Moment's first time in the ring.  Kutcher was WD from the 6-9 class for a 4 point major!  Lita was WB and BOW, BOS for 4 points also!

The whole family went to Orlando the week before Christmas.  I was able to sneak over to Eukanuba on Sunday afternoon for a bit and visited with a few people.  While everyone else hung out at the swimming pool, canoeing or just relaxing.  We did Disney for FOUR days!  Talk about being tired!  Our room overlooked the lake and we were able to watch the fireworks from Magic Kingdom and Epcot every night!  It was glorious!

Terry had surgery on January 2 for a torn rotator cuff.

The 2nd Sunday in January, I had great news from Mississippi from Mary Gail Holcombe, McGee, Loteki Rose To The Challenge picked up two more points.

Later that day I had a call from Helen Schultz (WI) "Scout", Loteki Take The Nature Trail, had picked up his first two points by going BOB over two specials from the puppy class!

Jackson

I went to a show in Des Moines the 3rd Saturday in January and was lucky to come home with two more points on Lita!  She is very close to her CH!  I just need to get to some shows.  What a glorious Saturday it was weather wise!

Cheryl Brown has been very busy running agililty.  Jackson is working towards his PACH with two more QQs and 57 points the last weekend of January.

busy time of year

Although not going to many shows, I've been very busy with work, puppies, family and enjoying the important things.

I had some good news from Mary Gail Holcombe (MS) Loteki Up To The Challenge picked up another point at local shows on September 16th.  McGee has fully recovered from his meth incident earlier this year.  He is looking really beautiful.

Cheryl Brown (TN) has been enjoying great success with Jackson running agility!  She is very happy to have GCH CH Loteki The Wind of Change back home after a brief visit to Iowa.  We are going to miss Spencer, but he left me two very special little bundles.  Crossing my fingers they are as pretty and have at least half as much brains!  He is an incredibly smart little guy!

I drove to Freeport, IL to shows on September 30th.  What a beautiful day!  I was lucky to have Loteki The Sun On My Face win WD and BOW for 2 more points.  Grant is really doing well, although he was a bit fresh after having two months off!  I had lunch with three other Papillon exhibitors.  What a lovely day it was!

Kutcher @ 6 months

A lot of my time is being spent going to my sister and bro-in-law's where we have our pony.  Trinity and Sophia are really enjoying learning to ride, as well, as just getting to know Camache.  It is a great experience and one that I am hoping will enrich their lives in the future.  We are enjoying family get togethers as everyone seems to come out to watch and enjoy!

Meg Peifer took this photo of my up and coming youngster, Loteki In The Party Moment.  I did not quite have him stack right, but there was a lot going on with motorhomes starting up and moving around, so he was just a bit distracted.  I hope Kutcher continues to fulfil his promise.

What a great weekend

Lots of news from the weekend -
Barry Palmer (MD) wrote he had an absolute great weekend with his two Papillons, Zephyr and Trooper.  "Zephyr earned his CDX a 194.5 and second place which is the
best score of his career.  In agility he still needs 5 double Q's for his MACH,
but we are making steady progress.

Trooper (Loteki Blowing In The Wind) just started competing last weekend at Jeannine's and earned his Beginner Novice Title at our club's trial last night.   This is a relatively new AKC class where the dog remains on lead.  It's a great way to get your dog in the ring and get experience while they are still working on their off lead heeling.  Trooper earned a 195.5 and first place.  To say the least, I was very proud.  Jeannine thinks he is the best heeler I have ever had. He is definitely an eye catcher.   Last weekend Chloe took 1st place, Willie took 2nd and Trooper took 3rd in the Beginner Novice class.  It was a Loteki sweep.  We had lots of fun."

Cheryl Brown (TN) writes on Saturday -  "Jackson and I had a fun day. Two blue ribbons in Novice Preferred 4" Jumpers and Standard. My little red guy rocked those courses! 23 seconds under time in Jumpers and then 41 seconds under time in Standard!"

Sunday Cheryl writes -  "Jackson rocked two more Novice courses today running 4". He does really like that."  Four runs four blue ribbons!  Sounds like a great day!!!

PIPPIN
Amy Nesselrodt (PA) wrote - "This past weekend, we had a "girls' camping trip" at Chenago Valley State Park (NY) and attended the Susquenago Kennel Club's agility trials. Molly Jo and Pippin (Loteki High Flyer NA NJ AJP OA) may now upgrade the OA to AXP, for they had a lovely Excellent Standard run for a first place ribbon and finished his title! Great job Molly and Pippin! Pippin enjoyed the camping part too as he had lots of "lap time" and also got to sleep with us in our tiny tent!"

Cheryl Brown was also very excited as CH Loteki The Winds Of Change, became GCh Loteki The Winds of Change!  He was BOB on Satuarday with yet another group placement in a tough toy group in Minnesota on Saturday.  Sunday he was BOB again, which completed the Grand title, but I was unable to stay for the group to other commitments.

LITA - 4 POINTS
Loteki Alito Di Vento, a.k.a. was WB and BOW for 4 points on Saturday from the BBE class!

My 2nd home bred
Miniature Pinscher  -  Sultans Tight Squeeze, a.k.a. Edgar, completed his championship title on Saturday from the BBE, undefeated, except the one time he was beat by his brother.

Jeannine Rash (PA) was HIT on Saturday at shows in her area with Nicholas.  I don't have all the particulars, but after many months at home.  I'm sure Jeannine & Nicholas are very happy to be back in the ring!

On Tuesday morning, I received this email from Cheryl (TN) - "He (Jackson) woke me up just after 2:00 to tell me something was wrong.  The hot water heater was running non stop. Weird. Then I heard water running. Hot water was gushing from my kitchen cabinets under the sink!

Luckily, I know how to shut off the main water shut off.  The braided rugs were soaked and there was some standing water and there are hardwoods in the kitchen.  I dragged the rugs outside and started mopping up the floor. Left a message for the plumber and went back to bed.

Plumber called at 6:15 and was here by 7:30.  The hot water supply hose blew apart. The main pressure valve had gone bad and the pressure was way too high.  Thank you Jackson!  If he hadn't alerted?!"  I think Jackson as earned his PAD title!!!  (PAD - Plumbing Alert Dog)

A great weekend with a lot of wonderful wins in many different parts of the country with wonderful people and fabulous dogs.  Congratulations!  Keep those emails and calls coming!

Great weekend

Lita
What a great three day weekend!

Friday started out wonderfully with Lita (Loteki Alito Di Vento) winning the bitch points at her first show.  CH Loteki The Winds Of Change was BOB and on to a Group II!!!!

Saturday was an early morning, but the results were good with Spencer winning BOB again!  Nothing in the group, but we had a good time and it RAINED!!!  We need it and more, but we were thrilled to receive 1.5 inches.

Reid
Sunday was another early morning, but much, much cooler than it has been in weeks!!  The dogs were all frisky and full of themselves.  We had a great time and a bit of a surprise with Reid, Loteki Written On The Wind, winning the dog points, and then on to BOS over 4 champion males, for a major.  I almost forget to mention, Terry handled Reid in the BOB ring.  He did a great job, in his Birkenstocks, jeans and hat.  Cannot wait to get the photos from the photographer!

This was the first weekend either Lita or Reid had been entered at a dog show.  They both did great, getting better and better each day!

Cheryl Brown (TN) was thrilled to report that Jackson picked up some more MACH points this weekend!  Way to go Team Jackson!!!
